31 January 2013

Plans for a new leisure complex in Craigavon to be developed by J H Turkington & Sons Ltd are at an advanced stage with construction due to start imminently.. Craigavon Entertainment Village will be located on 3.5 acres of land close to the Rushmere Centre between Lurgan and Portadown. The developers have been granted full planning permission for a cinema, five restaurants and one retail unit. Omniplex Cinemas will be the anchor tenant with a new eight screen digital cinema, which will be its twelfth opening in Northern Ireland. Osborne King is handling the lettings for the scheme and report strong interest from operators within the catering and hospitality industry regarding the restaurant units.

Craigavon has an extensive catchment area serving an estimated 182,000 people yet there is no locally based cinema and restaurant entertainment provision within the district, which Mark Carron from Osborne King who is handling lettings for Craigavon Entertainment Village acknowledged. He remarked: "At present, people living within the Craigavon area have to travel considerable distances to towns and cities such as Armagh, Banbridge, Newry and Lisburn if they want to go to the cinema. Now they will have a new amenity on their doorstep, which is bound to boost the social and cultural life of the local community.”
